As a sustainable tech advocate, I spread awareness on how we can reduce our digital waste. Bit by bit.
Digital waste – meaning: the pollution from our digital world –seems quite invisable. Yet, it has massive consequences for the environment.
If the Internet was a country, it would be the 4th largest polluter.
During my Master Digital Design, I started looking into digital waste. One of my projects won the Sustainability Award of the Green Office. This led to conversations with Dutch political parties about how to put digital waste on the map within the Dutch government.
A big part of my work is advocacy. I talk to the media and write about sustainable technolgy. Media that featured my work are, among others, BNR Nieuwsradio, De Volkskrant, De Dikke Data Show (VPRO) and Wat houdt ons tegen (HUMAN).
Another part of my work is giving presentations to organisations and businesses on how they can tackle their digital waste. Not necessarily by doing less, but by working smarter.
Finally, I keep learning about green web design and aim to spread those practises.
